Director of Engineering and Design

This position will lead the engineering and design efforts related to our TAP blood collection devices and accessories, from concept through prototyping and initial clinical evaluation. This position will manage a staff of engineers responsible for all design, modeling, prototyping, testing, and evaluation. This person will also manage external projects with engineering and design firms as needed.

This person will manage a team of individuals to design and develop our TAP blood collection™ devices and accessories. They will be responsible for managing brainstorming sessions, documenting and refining ideas, and evaluating new concepts for intellectual property value. They must be creative, innovative, and resourceful. The role may require hands-on work in the lab from time to time, and the successful candidate must have excellent mechanical, problem solving, and design skills. Experience working in a controlled environment under medical device quality systems is expected. Knowledge of basic physiology and biological systems is necessary. This position is expected to make significant scientific contributions to a highly functional and talented team. The candidate must be motivated to work in a fast paced environment and enjoy interacting with people of diverse backgrounds to solve complex engineering problems.

Additional Responsibilities:

Requires a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering and 10+ years experience in a medical device or diagnostic field. Must have strong leadership and project management abilities, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Should have significant supervisory experience. Must have demonstrated expertise in medical or diagnostic device design and prototyping, including injection molded components. Experience with microfluidics, blood collection/handling, or hemocompatible materials is desired. Proficiency with SolidWorks is required.

Principal Engineer

We seek a driven technical leader who will be a key contributor to the overall success of the product development group. This position will play an integral role in design verification and validation activities related to the TAP blood collection device product line. They will manage external projects with engineering and design firms, including human factors and usability studies. They will also be deeply involved with selecting and managing contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs).

This person will work in a team of individuals to optimize the design, assembly, functionality, and reproducibility of our TAP blood collection™ devices. Experience implementing quality systems, working under design controls, and conducting design for manufacturing (DFM) and scale-up activities is expected. This position will be responsible for leading the tech transfer of our assembly process to a contract manufacturer. The role will require hands-on work in the lab, and the successful candidate must have excellent mechanical, problem solving, and design skills. This position is expected to make significant scientific contributions to a highly functional and talented team. The candidate must be motivated to work in a fast paced environment and enjoy interacting with people of diverse backgrounds to solve complex engineering problems.

Additional Responsibilities:

Requires a BS or higher (PhD preferred) in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, or Industrial Engineering and 7-10 years experience in a commercial medical device environment, with at least 5 years in a product development role. Must have strong leadership and project management abilities, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Should have relevant supervisory experience. Must have demonstrated expertise in medical or diagnostic device design. Experience with rapid prototyping, injection molding, and scale-up for automated assembly is critical. Proficiency with SolidWorks and exposure to device manufacturing in a cGMP environment are required.

Principal Automation and Manufacturing Engineer

They will interface and collaborate with external engineering/design firms throughout the design for manufacturing and automation (DFM/DFA) processes.

This person will work in a team of individuals to modify the design and assembly of our TAP blood collection™ devices for manufacturability and automation. Experience with medical device quality systems and working under design controls is expected. This position will also be responsible for participating in the tech transfer of our assembly process to a contract manufacturer. The role will require hands-on work, and the successful candidate must have excellent mechanical, problem solving, and design skills. This position is expected to make significant scientific contributions to a highly functional and talented team. The candidate must be motivated to work in a fast paced environment and enjoy interacting with people of diverse backgrounds to solve complex engineering problems.

Contract Engineer

This contract position will be responsible for engineering, designing, and implementing novel sample collection and diagnostic devices using Seventh Sense’s proprietary technologies. The successful candidate will assist with preparing materials and assembling devices for use in pilot clinical studies and will also help with conducting the studies. You will work with a team of individuals to develop and optimize the device geometry, composition, and functionality.

Experience in mechanical design (preferably SolidWorks) is a plus. This position will be hands-on, and the successful candidate must have excellent mechanical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills. The candidate is expected to make scientific contributions to a highly functional and talented team. The candidate must be motivated to work in a fast-paced environment and enjoy interacting with people of diverse backgrounds to solve complex engineering problems. The position is for a minimum of 6 months with the potential to convert to a permanent position.

A B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, or Materials Engineering program is required. Experience in prototyping, device fabrication methods, and microfluidics is valuable. Knowledge or experience with biological fluids and physiology is beneficial. Strong team work and organizational skills are expected. The ability to work independently in lab is required. Attention to detail in the laboratory, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, are necessary.

Contract Research Associate

A B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Biology, or Bioengineering program is required. Experience performing wet chemistry assays and excellent pipetting skills are required. Knowledge or experience with biological fluids and physiology is beneficial. Strong team work and organizational skills are expected. The ability to work independently in lab is required. Attention to detail in the laboratory, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, are necessary.
